Just another day at the office

My adventure into the world of blogging has been thwarted slightly by a certain realisation that social networking/online activity/me chatting away on here is not wholly positive. I always saw sites such as Facebook and Twitter as mere hobbies that kept you up to date/the chance to be a nosy bitch from time to time! I've tried Twitter but never been a convert, but Facebook on the other hand does have me slightly hooked. I check it every day without fail unless I am on holiday and now I have the handy Blackberry, my phone can tell me new updates all the time. This never seemed a problem till a read an article today showing how much time I am actually wasting being a nosy bitch!

Have a look - A research study has found that although people think the internet has had a positive impact, social networking sites such as the forementioned are having a negative impact on peoples lives because so many people, like myself get hooked on who is updating their status or uploading a new photo album. My favourite quote -
"The Retrevo study showed that 48% of those polled said they update Facebook or Twitter during the night or as soon as they wake up. And 32% said interrupting a meal for a message is OK, while 7% said they'd even check a message during sex."

Whoever is part of this 7% I need to speak to - either they have some really juicy gossip that they found out from facebook or their partner is shocking in the sack! I don't know about you but phones/laptops at meal times?! I am quite bad with Facebook I have to admit but there is a line and status updates at dinner time is past that line for me.

I am tempted to comment on this article/email the author as it has finally made me aware of how much time is wasted on such networking sites. Since reading, I have scaled down what is on my page, ie photos and number of friends - took fricking ages - another reason not to get too involved with Facebook! The Facebook homepage is ever updating itself and so one can sit and watch for hours on end however with blogging this is not the case. I can write a blog whenever I want - I am limiting myself to once a day however! and still remain in control of how much time I spend on it. By doing this I will not get sucked into being part of one of those percentages! Blogging, the new way to control social networking.
